Nepal-China relations: Rail from Beijing to Kathmandu in two years

A six member Chinese delegation led by former minister for construction Mao Li Bai landed in Kathmandu Saturday,October 9, 2010 for a three day political visit to Nepal.

Immediately after landing in Kathmandu, the delegation separately met with the Chair of Constituent Assembly Mr. Subash Chandra Nembang, Nepali Congress newly elected President Mr. Sushil Koirala and vice chairman of Nepal Communist Party-Unified Maoists Mr. Mohan Baidya Kiran.

The Chinese speed is interesting if not puzzling!

Upon meeting Mr. Nembang, the delegation head assured that the Beijing-Lhasa rail route will be extended up to the Nepal border well in two years period.

The Chinese high powered delegation head made these remarks after Nembang expressed commitment over "Nepal's one China policy and urged the delegation to speed up the process of extension of Rail route from Lhasa to Nepal border".

"We want our neighbor also benefit from the development taking place in our country", said the Chinese guest.

The delegation will meet President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and UML Chairman Jhal Nath Khanal during their stay in Nepal.
