Charge-sheet lodged against Paras; likely to be released shortly

KATHMANDU, DEC 16 - Government attorneys have registered the charge-sheet lodged against Former Crown PrinceParas Shah at District Administration Office (DAO), Chitwan, on Thursday.

The charge-sheet under the Public Offence Act accuses Shah of “terrorising” Rubel Chaudhary and his family in tiger Tops Resort in Chitwan on Saturday, sources said.

The DAO officials are expected to record the statement of Shah shortly. All preparations for the same have been completed.

After recording the statement, a hearing will be conducted in between Chitwan District Judge Gita Prasad Timilsina and Shah’s attorney. Following the hearing, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Chitwan, Basantraj Gautam will pass the verdict on whether to continue Shah’s detention or release him.

Legal sources said there is a possibility of releasing Shah on bail. “The law cannot stop from releasing Paras,” one of the lawyers told eKantipur.

Dozens of journalists have thronged the district administration office, while hundreds of Paras’s supporters are desperately waiting in the streets for the arrival of verdict. More than one thousand Paras-sympathizers have converged in the regional police training centre, where Shah is confined, and the DAO.

Also today, cadres of Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N), a pro-monarchy party, came together for what they say in the memory of the Panchayat-era.

Shah was bought to Chitwan following his arrest from the Fulbari Resort in Pokhara for allegedly firing into the air over an argument with son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala in Tiger Tops Resort, Chitwan on Saturday.
